FW: RE: Issue 0017124: Stable Servers Crash and Restart Erratically Since 0.49 Patch
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Please refer to issue 0017124 (http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=17124). I'm unable to reopen the issue, hence the reason for submitting a new ticket.

Further notes regarding the issue mentioned above :

GameServers have no issue as far as the Server Hosting is concerned. This seems to be a problem with the latest patch 0.49 as you mentioned RE: the two points on 'Persistence'. Please give this feedback to the Dev Team and kindly keep this issue/ticket open until such time that the problem is resolved. Awaiting any feedback, thanks.

Notes from issue 0017124 :

Since the patch 0.49 was released to stable on 17/09/2014, ALL of the stable servers have become unstable and are constantly crashing and restarting every 25 - 35 minutes. I've done a full wipe and re-install of our own server, however the constant irregular restarting problem still persists.

Hello SYOS_Heisenberg,

In this case I would advise you to contact your GSP in order to pinpoint what would cause your server to crash.

According to the latest changelog (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/211081-changelog-stable-049124971/ [^]), the instability on your server could be due to:
-Persistence (Events do not get loaded properly after server restart)
-Persistence (Server state can become corrupted due to grenades stored in containers)

Regards,

JStewart

Hello SYOS_Heisenberg,

After the crashing symptoms started occuring, have you tried turning off persistence on your server?

Regards,

JStewart

In all honesty, I looked for notes on how to do that but couldn't trace anything. Do you perhaps have a link for me? Would gladly test this for you guys, and if it works you could use it as a 'solution' for other similar reports you receive.

When renting a server, you should be able to enable/disable persistence via the control panel provided by your GSP. In case you do not have the option to do so, you can always contact your GSP and ask them to assist you in disabling the persistence on your server.

We have no 'control panel' really with GameServers when it comes to DayZ SA. I've sent through an enquiry to them and asked whether or not they can do it from their side. I will confirm what their answer is via this issues notes.

All we currently can do on DayZ SA, hosted by GameServers, is a) kick players b) change server time c) manually restart the server d) change server name e) see player IDs / GUID's f) change amount of player slots g) change MOTD h) full wipe and re-install server i) and finally, change server type (between 1st and 3rd person).

DayZ SA server admins have very restricted/limited tools and rules that go with them, so much so that I would safely assume that all servers admins whom host via Vilayer are suffering as much as us.

Alright, as soon as you hear back from your GSP, just let me know and we'll see where to go from there.

We've done tests on the server with persistence enabled and we are still experiencing the same problems. After disabling it all the issues seemed to disappear. This is even after last weeks hotfix which was supposed to have fixed the persistence corruption. We've now had GameServers permanently disable the persistence on our server, and all other local server admins/owners have followed our example and did the same thing (otherwise the game is unplayable).

On a further note I would like to add that there seems to be an additional issue with the loot respawn mechanics on persistence enabled servers. Nothing seems to respawn even after all the buildings have been emptied and the items that were in there were used or discarded.

Thanks for taking the time to test on your server. The devs are aware that some persistence enabled servers still suffer from the crashes/freezes after the hotfix and they're still working on eliminating the problem. I'll merge your ticket with #17354 (it received more attention for some reason), but please feel free to follow that issue for further progress in the matter.

Regards,

JStewart
