Description

So I just opened the game for the first time today and tried to play and every time I try to connect to ANY server, any ping, any location, experimental or stable, I get that error. My VAC standing is "In good standing" and I've never been banned and my account is not limited. I've tried reinstalling BattleEye, the game, everything. I've tried running steam as administrator, I've tried verifying integrity, literally every suggestion I've found on the forums and on google. I have no AV that could be blocking the game or anything. My internet is fine. I can connect to DayZ Mod servers, but no standalone servers. I'd REALLY like to be able to play so I don't have to charge back.

Also I'll just go ahead and add this in here now since I see this is a recurring issue with the same response here.

Hello Aymak,

Thanks for sending in all your information. Which time zone are you in? Once I have that bit of info as well, I'll send it all across to the devs for further investigation.

Regards,

JStewart

Also, is there any expected wait time for a solution to this problem? I realize the game is in Alpha but I DID pay $30 for it, and I haven't even been able to join a server. I basically donated $30 for a character creation simulator that doesn't save my settings. I have a very nice computer as well with the EXACT same parts and OS as my friend, bought on the exact same day and his standalone works like a charm so I know it isn't a hardware issue. I thought maybe it might have something to do with DayZ mod and DayZ commander/ArmA but I uninstalled it all to no avail. I'd just like some sort of a time frame in which I'll be able to use the product I paid for. Thanks

Its been 2 days without a response and I still cannot connect to any servers. Like I said before, I'm completely understanding of the idea of "Alpha" and dealing with all the bug, glitches, and development, but I can't even play the game to begin with. It's kind of irritating that there is no solution to a problem that is happening to so many people and has been AROUND for such a long time.

Another little tidbit of info: I can't play on my friend's steam account either. Keep in mind, he has the exact same computer as me, built with the same parts bought at the same time and he lives a couple of hours away.

THe last thing I would try... I know... it's annoying but I would try...
Reinstlal Window. Format C:

Guess it must be something to do with an other driver you use or something like that.

Hello again Aymak,

Unfortunately, I can't give you an estimated time frame for how quick the problem will be investigated. The devs are investigating similar issues and are working as fast as possible to get through all the tickets.

So, 10 days later and I still can't play the game. Why is there nothing I can do to get a report from the game upon trying to join a server? No read out or error report. I mean from what I've read from the other posts the devs aren't able to find any answers for this issue. There has to be something someone can do to at least figure out WHY we can't play the game. I mean $30 is a lot of money to me, and it has literally gone to waste. I'm not asking for much, just answers. It'd be one thing if I were the only person having this issue but I'm not. I'd just like to know WHY I can't play, when I'll be able to, and if there's anything I can do to help solve the issue. I want to play this game so unbelievably bad and every time I have a day off I go and try to join a server in hopes that MAYBE I'll be able to play but am always let down. I've seen people say they can get it to work on other PC's when they have this issue, but not on the computer they have the issue on regardless of the internet/router so is it a problem with hardware/drivers? Like please give me something here, seriously...

Also, I'm not sure if I should be saying this but I really don't care at this point. I logged into my friend's steam account and tried playing on his account and I STILL couldn't connect to any servers. Does it have something to do with old DayZ Mod/DayZ Commander/ArmA files? I've deleted everything that I could find to no avail. I literally have no clue what the problem is and some sort of real answer would be great

Did you reinstall Windows like suggested?

If you have the same HW as your Friend but it still doesn't work it might be a software problem. But a software problem doesn't mean it's DayZ, 'cause if DayZ is the Problem, nobody could play.

So I thing it must be something small like a Driver a broken DLL somewhere or an other Program that you have installed and your Friend not, that is not allowing to connect to other Servers, maybe something in the Registry went wrong and so on. There are so many possibilities for this error...

Ex. My Wifes PC also runs DayZ very well, suddenly there was no way to even start the game. Actually the fault was of EVGA Software Update that didn't work with DayZ. So she had to deactivate this software and now it works again.

That's the reason why I suggested a Format C: for your PC. Let me know:)

I talked to one of my highly experienced programmer/networking friends and this was his advice to the devs, or to anyone who actually cares that people who bought the game can't play it. http://puu.sh/bIsUY/4d66efc839.png

Hello again Aymak,

I chased the issue but so far no news I'm afraid. The devs are still investigating the cause for these issues. When you tried your friend's account, was it from your own location/connection?

it was from my location/internet. Like I said, his copy works fine and we have the exact same hardware specs

Then it could look like there's something in your network settings that is blocking/disrupting your connection to the game servers, but I'm sure that the devs would like to be sure what the culprit is before closing out the ticket on that assumption.

Well there was an issue you handled for someone that had the exact same problem and they could play on their laptop but not their desktop, and they tried multiple internet connections on the desktop

I'm a REALLY patient guy, but a month after I bought the game, I still can't play it. Not even an answer on an estimated time when I CAN play the game. I can't connect to standalone servers, but I can connect to any ArmA 2 or 3 server. How the fuck can you guys honestly not figure this out? It's alpha, I get it. But its been a month (much longer for other people) and still no fix? Like are you serious?

Hello again Aymak,

The devs are working their way through the backlog of similar issues and have reviewed all your data/logs, and they found no indications suggesting that the disruptions are due to the client/servers. However, the devs provided the following guide for troubleshooting your network.

If you are having issues with connecting to online modes in DayZ, please refer to the connection troubleshooting guide below:

  1. Check all the physical devices on your network to ensure they are plugged in and powered on.
  2. Perform a connection test on each device connected to the network. For reference, here is a list of platform-specific troubleshooting guides:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/network-connection-problem-help#network-problems=windows-7&v1h=win81tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

NAT Types:

  • Open
  • Moderate
  • Strict

Open NATs can connect to any of the three types. --> Probably the least common type
Moderate can only connect to open and moderate. --> Probably the most common type
Strict can ONLY connect to open.
Strict NATs are a difficult problem with peer-to-peer games. Since most people don't have open NATs, the player with a strict NAT won't be able to find many joinable games.

Also, if the player with a strict NAT does manage to join a game, if another player with a moderate NAT joins later, the player with the strict NAT gets kicked out.

Another problem is that sometimes the ISP (Internet Service Provider) is also behind a NAT, which often means even if you have a direct connection to the internet (without a router/firewall), the ISP still acts as a strict NAT.

Port Forwarding:
The following Ports need to be open on your router to connect to the online servers:
TCP 80, UDP 88, UDP 2302, UDP 2314, UDP 2326, 2338

If you need assistance with opening these ports, please refer to the following website for more information (you will need to know your router brand and model, as the website guides are based on specific routers)
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Here are some additional tips that have helped many players improve their connectivity:

  1. Make sure your router's firmware is upgraded the latest version (very important).
  2. Unplug your router for 10 minutes and plug it back in. Some older routers degrade in performance over time until it is rebooted, similar to a PC.
  3. Disable any firewall or other network filtering for the game.
  4. Enable uPnP (universal plug and play) on your router.
  5. If you don't care about security, enable DMZ (de-militarized zone) on your router for your PC's address. This turns off all of your router's firewall features for that specific PC.
  6. Run 'cmd' in administrative mode and use command ipconfig /flushdns
  7. Contact your ISP and ask them what your DNS setting should be.

Direct Connection:
If you are still having issues connecting to the online servers after trying the above steps, try connecting your broadband modem directly to the console or PC you are playing the game on. This can help determine if the issue is related directly to the router or another source.
