Description

I bought DayZ yesterday (Sunday, 8/3/14) and it took me 9 hours to download. After downloading for so long, I started to play it today (Monday, 8/4/14). It lagged so extremely that I can't play it. First off the game started looking like it was on DOS (super pixelated), after getting it to look normal (though only in windowed mode), I tried to play the game. I got on a server and started to play. My character moves at about 5 frames per minute. It lags so severely. I just want to play the game. Someone help me figure this out. Yes, I know my internet is slow, yet at the same time I can play other online games without lag, so I know the problem is not my internet.

Hi,

Follow these steps to return your game to normal resolution:

At the main menu, click Configure -> Video -> User Interface and use the Resolution drop down list to select your resolution.

Make sure the Aspect Ratio option matches the aspect ratio of your resolution.

Close the config settings completely and return to the main menu.

Then open Config again, click Video and then select your resolution from the Rendering Resolution drop down list.

This should return your game back to normal resolution.

It looks better, but it is still lagging. When I press tab, it takes at least 8 seconds to open the menu. Movement is extremely choppy.

Well bud, you need to upgrade at least your video card to get the game to run properly. I might even suggest upgrading your CPU as well. Just to give you an example, my computer was similar in the hardware, here is what I did.

Research your motherboard, you can download CPUID to get specs, name, etc. Once you figure out what it is capable of in terms of which CPU it supports, type of ram, if it has a PCIE X16 slot to support upgraded graphics or not. (If you already knew this, I apologize just being thorough)

I upgraded my computer, it's an older intel LGA775 socket, to a Core 2 quad, Q9600. Upgraded the power supply to a 600watt. Then I got a new video card, PNY Geforce GT 730 with 1gb of GDDR5 ram. I also upgraded my RAM to 4gb of PC6400, 800mhz. All matching. This whole experience ran me about 250$ ordering used parts/amazon type deals. My computer runs Dayz perfectly fine on medium/medium high settings with a few tweaks in the video settings. I'm going to get 8gb of matching Ram eventually, but it's fine for now.

Well, this applies if you are using a desktop. If it's a laptop, well I'm not too sure there. Never used laptops. Might be similar although I'm not sure if you can upgrade graphics in a cost effective manor. Again, good luck.

Yeah, its a laptop. Its a Toshiba ~2 years old. It can play games like World of Tanks, DC Universe Online, and Half-Life 2 fine. I don't know why it can't play DayZ. I'll look into upgrading it. Thanks for your help.

Very sorry to say this dude but with this specs you won't be able to play the game on a state where it looks good and runs smooth. It would awesom if it would run smooth while looking shitty...

The laptop to bad to run the game. Dayz is a really CPU intensive game so at least you need a gut CPU and a good graphics card.
Since your laptop only runs on a integrated onboard graphics card which is bad for gaming and also does not have a newer cpu you wont have a chance to play the game.
Laptops are not made for upgrading hardware. The only components which can be upgraded ist RAM. In your case upgrading RAM won't fix the Problem.

If you want to play the game you should buy a new PC.
For about 600$ you will get a Desktop PC without a monitor and periphery which runs DayZ fine.
