Players sitting behind same router kick each other
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

[I GOT A VIDEO ON IT'S WAY THAT SHOWS THE PROBLEM]

Me and my brother sit behind the same router and 90% of the time when we want to play on the same server whoever tries to get in second makes the first one lose connection to the server.

Not only does the one that got in first lose connection but the second one actually never gets to get in the server either, getting the "Waiting for host" message indefinitely.

We originally had the same problem in the mod and we thought it was an Arma2 issue but this continues to happen in the SA.

Steps To Reproduce

Have at least 2 players sitting behind the same router log in to the SAME server. Chances are they will kick each other out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have found a rudimentary fix for this. We have to turn off our modem and router for a few seconds so we get a new IP when we turn them back on (dynamic IP where we live). HOWEVER, this fixes the problem just for that session/server and we start kicking each other out again if we switch to another server (and we have to restart the router again, etc.).

I've made some research and a few people used to have the same problem in the mod so I'm surprised this hasn't been reported here so far.

This problem doesn't happen in any of the other online games that we play together by the way.

Hello 1990eam,

Please try out the following:

Add -port=25007 into your DayZ launch options on one of the PC's. To do this, you can right click on DayZ in Steam --> Properties --> Set Launch Options and enter "-port=25007" (without the quotation marks). The number doesn't really matter as long as it's different from the other computers which will use 2302, 2303, 2305 by default.

Alternatively, if you have access to the router settings and upnp is turned on, you can try turning it off, restarting router then trying again.

JStewart

I'll try this out and update again if it does not work. Thanks.
