1. Locate a water well 2. Wait till you're really thirsty (doesn't take long) 3. Hit the action key (F) on the fountain, you will notice you can do it rapidly which sends you a lot of in-game messages. 4. You will also notice how much you need to drink to satisfy your thirst.
