Hello,
I’d like to request a player memorial for a friend of mine who recently passed away from brain cancer.
He was a longtime DayZ player, with thousands of hours across both the Mod and Standalone.
I first met Lone over 12 years ago during the release of Standalone when I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.
By then, he was already a seasoned veteran of the game.
He always tried to help new players out, sometimes admittedly to try and gain a “meat shield” in the process (me).
However his main philosophy was simple: help new players now while they're still learning and figuring out if they enjoy the game, so they’d stick around, in the hope of keeping his favorite game alive with a strong player base for years to come.
I like to think he helped accomplished that, because both myself and the community he built around him are all still playing today.
When I met Lone, I was living far from home, but I always knew I had a friend to talk to and play games with.
Later, when I moved back home we were essentially living on opposite sides of the planet.
Even then, we always found time to play DayZ together and catch up while just having fun.
We’d have a deal where he would pick the server we were going to play and I'd be at 250+ ping, but on the next server he'd have to suffer the same.
Thankfully, DayZ is one of those rare games where high ping is not a major/unplayable issue, so it never really got in the way of us being able to stay connected and enjoy our time together.
For that, I want to say thank you BI for creating/continuing to develop a game we always managed to find ourselves coming back to and helping bond our friendship in some sort of weird way in our mutual love for DayZ.
When we played Chernarus, one place Lone always made us visit was the hunting cabins below Green Mountain **(0.32 0.92 3256.88 / 6126.09)**.
If we were anywhere near that area, he'd make it a requirement to stop by, hoping for a Winnie, a Mosin, or something useful.
To be honest more often than not, he was right.
To this day, those cabins are still a staple in any loot route I run.
That’s why I think it would be a fitting place to honor his memory.
I was hoping you might consider placing a cross for him there, and perhaps a static hunting pack as well since he always was on the search for hunting gear.
I’ve put together a small makeshift memorial as an example, but I’ll leave the final design to you and what makes the most sense.
Thanks again!
RIP Lone / Brhycs Hinds
