When using a shovel, standing, press space so the shovel is in an upright position (you cannot see the actual spade above your fov), you will only be able to swing ONCE, but subsequent attempts to attack will not work.
I've tried on multiple servers, same issue. I haven't tried in third person/ crouching/ prone/ eating/ dying/ singing/ crying etc
