**Playable 3rd Conflict "Independent" Faction:
**
The idea of a playable FIA faction challenging the USA and USSR in Conflict has potential, but turning the FIA into a “third playable army” misses a great opportunity to make Conflict more engaging and unique.
A third “army” shouldn’t “compete” with the two‑superpower PvP USA vs USSR dynamic; it should enhance it by making the world feel more dangerous and immersive. This would set Conflict apart from other 3-faction games (e.g. War Dogs, Bellum, etc).
A better approach is to have the independent faction be Partisan Forces (PF) — a civilian resistance group similar in concept to Combat Ops. Instead of acting more like a conventional army, PF would offer an asymmetric survival experience: outnumbered, under‑equipped, improvisational. Focused on staying alive in a world dominated by two superpowers. This would highlight Reforger’s unique ability to support varied, realistic experiences in a large-scale environment.
**Benefits of playable Partisan Forces vs FIA as “3rd army faction”:
**- Preserves the core USA vs USSR PvP dynamic instead of diluting it.
- Lone‑wolf players, who typically avoid logistics and co-op, etc, can have a meaningful role as PF, while strengthening co‑op within the main factions.
- Avoids narrative and mechanical complications of defining FIA as a 3rd playable army (e.g., base capturing rules, supplies mechanics, alliances etc).
- Adds atmosphere and variety through survival‑focused gameplay.
**How PF gameplay would work:
**- PF is intended to be difficult and demanding
- Small player count (e.g. limited to 20% of player slots).
- Solo‑oriented, with scarce weaponry
- very limited intel (e.g. no enemy bases automatically visible on the map)
- No base capturing, no formal alliances, no win objectives; instead PF harass, sabotage, and fight to survive.
- One‑time faction switch allowed (limited intel prevents exploitation).
Overall impact:
Transforming the third playable faction into Partisan Forces (PF) would create a distinctively immersive version of Conflict:
- USA and USSR remain at the heart of Conflict, with PF enhancing the core superpower dynamic, not undercutting it
- PF provides high‑risk survival gameplay like a combination of Combat Ops and Day Z
- Lone‑wolf players gain purpose, co‑op becomes stronger, and the world feels more dynamic and immersive.
- The experience becomes more challenging, atmospheric, and reflective of Reforger’s unique scale of breadth and depth
A hybrid variation could start FIA as a more conventional army (similarly to how it works now), then, once all key objectives are controlled by USA / USSR, FIA respawns are disabled, and only partisan forces (PF) spawns are allowed.
