recording 1, MBTs firing on the range 21.09.2013
Important note: I will begin to go through the sounds as figure out discrepancies and oddities, and update this post as I am able to collect more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPJ4MnONwk0 Iraqi T-72s. note absence of the weird bassy reverb. Guns are not subwoofers, the noise is extremely high pitched and sharp (actually, it`s rather like a single pulse of high amplitude, not a stretched out sound.). The sound of the C4 explosive ingame is closer to real sound behaviour from a gun like this than the current sample. The sound only should get bassier as the distance gets larger. Armed Assault did this well, as did that competitor from 2008.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3jfkZZ-73s Iraqi M1s. My emphasis is really on how short and sharp the noise is. It is -loud-. The blast wave picks bricks up from the ground around the muzzle: the sound should reflect this. You have got the sounds spot on with the rifles and the autocannon on the IFVs: please fix the MBT gun sounds too.
Example (poor quality, I know): http://youtu.be/p4mqGvIlstE?t=1m56s
Note the sharp bang, and lack of bassy reverb. In real life you would obviously feel a punch and shock going through your diaphragm, which ingame could possibly be emulated by increasing the frequency range of the gunshot as well as the volumne across distance. Falloff and reverb will need to receive an "airy" quality, instead of the current "bassy" quality.
Currently the reverb on most guns sounds like a rattling subwoofer fading out under the ground, on top of the filter issues documented above. Again, the filters sound electric, not atmospheric. I hope that this can be alleviated.
