there seems to be a limit how many items you can place in the vincinity of a fireplace. i was drying my clothes next to a fireplace ( the one in a house with 4 spots for smoking/ 2 for cooking). when i put more then 9 items in the vincinity of the fireplace, it disappeared. same thing with cooked items. as soon as you pick item up, the fireplace reappears.
