Issue:
I’m experiencing inconsistent AI behavior in Arma 3, specifically with pathfinding and enemy engagement. AI units take stupid routes, get stuck on objects or fail to engage targets when they have a clear shot, even in vanilla and custom missions.
How to Reproduce:
Put AI infantry squads using Zeus or the Eden Editor in an open terrain.
Assign them a waypoint to a location with some obstacles (buildings, fences, rocks).
Watch how they move—some units take a detour or just stop moving.
In combat, AI sometimes delays firing or doesn’t recognize enemy presence even when looking directly at them.
Expected:
AI should move efficiently, avoiding obstacles and taking direct routes where possible.
Units should engage enemies immediately upon detection without delay or hesitation.
AI should be consistent, not random between encounters.
Troubleshooting:
Tested without mods – issue persists. Increased AI skill settings – minor improvement but not consistent. Checked for script conflicts in custom missions. Tried different maps and scenarios to see if it’s environment-dependent.
Possible Causes & Workarounds:
AI movement scripts might not adjust for certain terrains.
Enemy detection might have inconsistent response time.
It could be related to server performance or desync in multiplayer.
Improving AI pathfinding logic or reaction times would greatly improve gameplay.
Any insights from Bohemia Interactive devs or the community on possible fixes, workarounds or upcoming changes? Has anyone else experienced this AI issue in recent updates?
