Settings don't save (Documents folder is a network share)
Need More Info, WishlistPublic

Description

Every time I restart DayZ I have to re-do all of my settings. From resolution, to graphics options, to my character info to my control bindings.

In my Documents folder I have the following folders: DayZ\Saved\mpmissions\__cur_mp.ChernarusPlus

However, they are all empty, there are no files in any of them.

I had a friend send me his DayZ config file and I manually put it in there, but still it didn't seem to read it either (didn't pick up the resolution set in the file).

I had a similar issue with another game (either FEAR 2 or FEAR XP) not saving save games in the Documents folder. This was caused by the fact that my Documents folder is on a network location.

Assuming the cause of this issue is the Documents folder being on the network, can this be:

a) fixed
b) change the save location to within the Steam folder
c) ability to specify the save folder location either in settings or by using a launch parameter or something similar, at least as a simple workaround?

Additional Information

All of my graphics settings etc. are persistent while I have the game open and only reset once I relaunch.

However, when I rebind keys in game they seem to reset even when I don't restart (not sure what causes this). This is quite a hassle when I want to zoom in/out with a scope to find my keys were unbound again as I don't have a numpad so can't use the defaults.

I am also having this problem because my 'My Documents' folder is redirected to a network share

I was able to work around it by using the launch parameter:
-profiles=C:\DayZ

Which redirects it to a local folder, however I couldn't find this launch parameter documented anywhere, I just happened to stumble across is on someones blog...

Hi p1,
I will look into this. For now, could you attempt to solve the problem in the way Craigorsaurus has suggested?
Thanks,
Andy

Thanks Andy I appreciate this. I will try Craigorsaurus' workaround when I get a chance.

Hi p1,
sadly, this is quite difficult to reproduce on our end. Is the issue still present?

Andy

This bug is still an issue Version 0.58.129488

I have my Documents folder location on a network share.
Using Windows 10 64 bit.

I haven't played this game in some time. But finally had a go at setting up my config again.

Seems this is still an issue (now on windows 10 64bit with Documents over a network share. Network share is on Linux using samba if you were unable to recreate the issue by setting your Documents to a normal Windows share).

I did use Craigorsarus' suggestion which helped. I copied my old config files over but they would not update when I changed settings in game. So I started with a blank folder using -profiles= launch parameter and then copied the contents of the old config file over the contents of the new one and then set it up from there.

The fact that copying over the old configs seemed to show a similar issue (couldn't save to that file, however over the network it doesn't read from the file either) suggests it potentially has something to do with a samba share as opposed to just a windows share? I would guess if this is the case it would be permissions related.

Overall, if configs were saved in steam's standard config locations in your steam directory and not in a users Documents folder this issue would not exist.
