After the last update (1.6.0.3) I can't find any hammers.

I have searched through 8 or 9 towns for the last few days, looked through every spot and found 1 hammer which i stored in my tent only to find it missing the next day.
I have noticed that many sheds now are empty and use to have at least something in them.
I found a few things like a shovel mostly buried in the ground with only the handle end visible.
Could the hammers be buried in the ground where one can't see or detect them?
