PS4 Vehicle Lag Spikes (information that may help you)
New, UrgentPublic

Description

My friends and I have been plagued by the "screen freeze" issue where the driver of a car is subjected to periodic freezing of the gameplay while driving that are often referred to "lag spikes" by the community.

These spikes (in our case) can last anywhere from just a couple seconds but will often last 10-20 seconds or more. The real issue is that while the screen freezes for the driver, the car continues to move sometimes in directions that make no sense. I have often found myself between trees once the spike ends. All you can do is hit the brake and hope you don't crash into something.

The thing is, all of the other occupants are completely unaware of what is happening as time still passes normally for them. It's typically only the driver who is affected. Players often have to drive 20KPH or less to avoid damage when they crash due to a spike.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE "Additional Information" SECTION FOR MORE DETAILS THAT MAY BE IMPORTANT AS I THINK THIS IS PART OF THE RESOLUTION.

Steps To Reproduce

Unfortunately, there is no way to reliably reproduce lag spikes other than that they occur quite frequently and 99% of the time, only from the driver's perspective (3rd person or 1st).

However, when driving along with a buddy in another car behind me, we have noticed that if I experience a lag spike in a particular spot, he will often see the spike too when he crosses into that same general area.

Cities, towns or anywhere there are buildings the spikes seems to be worse than anywhere else both in frequency and severity.

Additional Information

This may be important. PLEASE READ

Ever since one of the hotfixes you folks released to address the blue-screen/crashes, I have noticed a dramatic reduction in lag spikes. .....both in frequency of their occurrence and severity. Most will only last a brief moment (less than a second and the worst is usually about 3 seconds. Rarely do they last more than that.

Also, while switching between 1st person and 3rd person prior to this (when my spikes were really bad), it made little difference. However, now the severity is reduced even further when I drive while in 1st person view.

I am now often able to drive in second gear at speeds twice what I used to (e.g. 40kph+) with an acceptable risk in between towns. In cities, towns, etc., the spike increase as they have before as do the risks so I still try to keep my speed down to less than 20kph.

NOTES:

  • While the hotifix seems to have helped my lag spike issues, my friend I play with still experiences them with no improvement. He simply can drive over 20kph without severe risk.
  • Most of out experiences these days are on a private server I rent with just us two on it or alone.
  • Both my friend and I are playing on standard, original PS4's. HOWEVER, I have the game loaded on an external Samsung Evo 1TB SSD. I don't know if the hotfix changed something that now allows the advantages of playing on an SSD to be realized which is the reason my lag spike issue improved?

If you have any question for me, please ask. I am willing to help. I just want to see DayZ succeed on PS4 and would really like to experience the game without some of these persistent bugs ruining that. Thank You.
