I've killed a couple zombies wearing backpacks. But, I was unable to take their backpacks off of them. Later in the same game, I found a backpack. I could not swap it with the child one I had on, and I could not remove the one I had on my back. I was unable to replace the one I had on with the larger backpack. Also, sometimes I could not take food off of zombies.
