The XBOX Quickslot assignment is confusing to users. When you hold down the left stick to assign an item to the quick-slot, it doesn't specifically tell you to press A to commit to that slot.

Normally in games, quick-slot assignment and use is typically hold the button to get the wheel, while holding the wheel open use your right stick to select. Upon letting go of the wheel, that is the commit/action.

I've had a few friends ask me how to assign, so it seems to be confusing users. Maybe just put a "Press A to assign" at the bottom?
