I used my save and did this at least half a dozen times and it does it every time. I launch to mission 7604 in the north polar region. As I land, I can see the blue explore mark and the green landing target mark at least 50 meters above the ground. All the rocks arr floating as well...in the whole area. The sky crane seems to be using them any way and drops me from this height. I either smash in to the ground or fall through it and keep falling. I watch my parachute and capsule fall through the ground too. Either way...I can not start this map here and it really is my first choice.
