Character stays on server after unstable connection kick
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I keep getting kicked every now and then for "unstable connection", which wouldn't be much of an issue on its own, BUT the character stays on the server for a few seconds after the kick, which can easily result in a very frustrating death. I've already almost died to zombies twice that this has happened. Please, either make the server-side character get disconnected at the same time as the client, or just don't kick anyone for an unstable connection, maybe just show a warning symbol instead? Thanks in advance.

Have a bad internet connection i guess?

Additional Information

I've also noticed that oddly enough I only get disconnected for an unstable connection after interacting with doors, otherwise I can sit AFK in a building for hours without getting kicked. However I haven't found a way to replicate this issue with the doors in any way, besides just bad luck.

Hello Damca.
What is the server name/IP of the server you have experienced this on? Does this occur on official servers as well?

Damca added a comment.Mon, May 13, 1:55 PM

Yes, I've experienced this on the official server EU - DE 1297.

Were there any other performance/lag issues noticeable on the server at the time of the occurrence?

Damca added a comment.Mon, May 13, 4:33 PM

There weren't any other performance issues, however shortly before this occurrence the door has lagged a bit, in other terms, it has opened a second later after the initial interaction. Shortly after this I've gotten kicked.

Thank you.
This appears to be simply caused by the system that is in place to prevent combat logging. The character stays in the game for 15 seconds after turning off the game or being kicked. I will forward this to the devs if there is a possibility to discern between shutting the game off and being kicked but I can not promise that this will be possible or implemented.

Hello. It would have been great to be able to make the distinction to prevent this from happening. Unfortunately, the distinction that would be made would open the door to abuse through the use of third-party software to cause a voluntary exclusion so as not to be affected by the 15-second timer. It's technically possible, but you'd have to put too much faith in what's done on the client side.
